Humans for Education is a nonprofit that helps people build small businesses to become financially sustainable and this year we are showcasing a chef who will be teaching us a traditional Ugali recipe! This chef originally benefitted from our partnership with a local school, Destiny Shaper Primary School. We worked with Destiny Shaper to build them a small business and due to the success of this the school lowered school fees and this chef was able to start her own business and support her family. Come learn to cook and learn all about the incredible work she does!

Story

Ready to learn to cook, village-style? On August 12th, 2021 we will be hosting a cooking class all the way from Maasai Mara, Kenya. During this class, you will be taught by Noosentui Lepore who will be teaching you a traditional Ugali recipe that has been handed down from her family for several generations. Ugali is a type of porridge that is very commonly served in Maasai Mara in the mornings and is often served with kale and sometimes meat, if available.

In 2017, Humans for Education worked with a school in Noosentui Lepore's community, where we built the school a small business. Within several months the school had increased it's income by 50% and Noosentui wasn't needing to pay as much in school tuition, so she could spend the money on her own business. Shortly after that, she was also sponsored by Humans for Education so that her children could get an education and she could pursue her dream of becoming a chef.

In this cooking class, we will learn all about how to make Ugali in the traditional way, we will even be doing it in a manyatta. At the same time you will get to see first hand how people's lives are impacted everyday by the ability to follow their own dreams and pursue their goals of starting their own businesses.

The proceeds of this event will go towards helping thousands of women like Noosentui build their own small businesses, not only helping themselves and their families out of extreme poverty, but ensuring financial sustainability.
